Even Start Program

WHAT IS THE EVEN START ALL ABOUT?

The Even Start program will provide many opportunities for families who are illiterate and who meet the low-income Qualifications. The program will assist parents in becoming self-sufficient while learning how to help their children succeed. This program is provided FREE to participants.

WHAT WILL THE PROGRAM OFFER?

Early Childhood Education for childer from birth through age 7, which will be coordinated with the local school's Head Start and Early Elamantry Education Programs. Some home based sessions will also be offered.

Literacy Based parent Education to assist parents / caregivers in becoming "teachers at home" and education partners with their children's teachers at school.

Parent and Child Time (PACT) for interacive literacy activities involing parents and their children learning together.

Meet the Even Start Program Staff

Geneva Johnson, the porject director- Clans are Bit'ahnii nish[7igo, T1chii'nii b1sh7shch77n. Kin {ich7i'nii dahshicheii, d00 T0d7ch'7i'nii dahshin1li. I graduated from Rock Piont School in 1990 and I recived my B.A. degree in Sociology from the University of Arizona in Tucson. I taught Navajo language at U of A for 4 years and wroked with at - risk youth and licenced families for foster care. I came home to work with families and children. I enjoy working with my staff and the families who utilize our family litery services.

Julian Holiday, parent liaison - Clans are T0 d7ch'7i'nii, Bit'ahnii, !sh88h7, T'7zl1n7. I am originally from Black Mountain, Arizona. My job is working with the school age children 5-7 years of age. The ones that are in Headstart and lower grade, kdg, 1st and 2nd graders. I also do home visit around the community and visit ather surroundings school like Round Rock, Mexican Water, and The Lutheran Mission School. I really like working with these kids and their parents. I enjoy working with callenges.

Frank Yazzie, early childhood teacher - clans are T1chii'nii nishli, T1b22hi b1shishchiin, Bit'ahnii dashicheii d00 Deeshchii'nii dashin1li. I work with 3 and 4 years old, four times a week. We utilyze Scotts Foresmen Curriculum, and we also focus mostly on literacy and math. We are centeer base. I have worked with Even Start for three years and it's fun working with the preschoolers, their parents, and the staff.
